Most anticipated games of February 2023 and all the games releasing

Forspoken was released in January and it was a very forgetful release. While it was in production for a long time and a very anticipated game of the year, it was lacklustre. While January didn’t have a lot of games to look forward to, February has some of the most anticipated games of the year.

Let’s have a look at the most anticipated games of February 2023.

Scars Above

Developed by Mad Head Games and published by Prime Matter, Scars above is a sci-fi, third-person adventure shooter. A massive and enigmatic alien structure appears in Earth’s orbit, stunning the entire world, and is dubbed “The Metahedron” by humans. The Sentient Contact Assessment and Response (SCAR) team, comprised of scientists and engineers, is dispatched to investigate.

Things do not go as planned, as the Metahedron transports the team across space to an unknown extrasolar planet. You play as Dr Kate Ward who is a scientist but you have to survive, find your crew and find out what happened.

The alien world looks interesting although not in a very traditional sci-fi manner and gives out a vibe of Horizon Zero Dawn and Returnal mixed together.

Scars above releases on February 27 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

Wanted: Dead

In a world littered with open-world games, it is refreshing to see some plain and simple, hack-and-slash games and this is what Wanted: Dead gives us. Wanted: Dead is a hybrid slasher/shooter from the makers of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.

The game follows a week in the life of the Zombie Unit, an elite Hong Kong police squad on a mission to uncover a major corporate conspiracy. You play as Lt. Hannah Stone, a hardboiled Hong Kong cop, and plough through mercenaries, gang members and private military contractors in a spectacular cyberpunk adventure.

The combat looks fast, smooth and fun.

Wanted: Dead releases on February 14 for PC, PS4, PS5,  Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is the big open-world game of this year and people are hyped for this one. While it is set in a period much before Harry Potter and co., it does an amazing job of capturing the world of Harry Potter, more specifically Hogwarts.

Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart.

You will play as a character central to the future of Wizarding World. You will learn spell casting, brewing potions and taming magical beasts. The game mechanics look solid and if it really delivers on the story, this can be one of the best games of 2023.

Hogwarts Legacy releases on 10 February for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and Switch.

Atomic Heart

Finally, we get the release of Atomic Heart. It’s been in development for over 5 years and had multiple delays. Atomic Heart is a first-person, sci-fi, action-adventure shoot set in the utopian world of the USSR.

The unstoppable course of technology along with secret experiments have brought rise to mutant creatures, terrifying machines and superpowered robots—all suddenly rebelling against their creators. Only you can stop them and find out what lies behind the idealized world.

A lot of gameplay has shown off the main boss and combat of the game which looks amazing. Backed by Focus Entertainment which has given a lot of hits, Atomic Heart looks promising.

Atomic Heart releases on February 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

Wild Hearts

Made by the makers of Nioh and Dynasty Warriors, Wild Hearts is published under EA. It is a semi-open-world game with a unique twist on the hunting genre. An ancient technology called Karakuri gives you a fighting chance against fearsome beasts infused with the ferocious power of nature itself.

It is based in fantasy medieval Japan and you can play in co-op mode with up to 2 friends (cross-platform support)

Wild Hearts releases on February 16 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Horizon Call of the Mountain

Expanding the PlayStation-exclusive, Horizon series, Horizon Call of the Mountain will be released alongside the PSVR2

Horizon Call of the Mountain is a VR title that is made for PSVR2 and will follow a different character (not Aloy) in the post-apocalyptic world of Horizon. This experiment can potentially change VR gaming by making something so big and beautiful on an AAA scale for VR is amazing.

It needs to be seen how the experience and the world of Horizon universe will translate to VR gaming.

Horizon Call of the Mountain releases on February 22 for PSVR2 and PSVR.

Returnal

The PlayStation Exclusive that was released in 2021 is finally coming to PC. Returnal is a rogue-like shooter with an interesting game mechanic.

After crash-landing on this shape-shifting world, Selene must search through the barren landscape of an ancient civilization for her escape. Isolated and alone, she finds herself fighting tooth and nail for survival. Again and again, she’s defeated – forced to restart her journey every time she dies.

Returnal is releasing on February 15 for PC.

Octopath Traveler II

For the fans of old-school RPG games with pixel art, rejoice. Continuing the Octopath series, Octopath Traveller II will be set in Solistia, a land comprising an eastern and western continent divided by the sea.

In this realm, eight travellers hailing from different regions will venture for their own reasons and will have their own storylines. It’s a classic adventure game with a beautiful mixture of pixel art and modern CG art.

Octopath Traveler II releases on February 24 for PS4, PS5, PC and Switch.

Sons of the Forest

We have had a lot of survival games recently, but this comes off the success of The Forest which was a very refreshing survival game with good visuals and story.

In Sons of the Forest, you will be sent to find a missing billionaire on a remote island where you find yourself in a cannibal-infested hellscape. It will drill down more on the horror part of the game with weird mutants and cannibals.

You can also play in co-op mode with your friend if you are afraid to be alone on a mysterious forest island.

Sons of the Forest releases on February 23 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and PC.
