If you are looking for a cheap 144 Hz monitor for gaming, there are quite a few options for you. 144Hz refresh rate is the go-to for most gamers since it is affordable and good enough in terms of performance.
Although a 144Hz refresh monitor can range from ₹11,000 to up to ₹25,000 depending on the resolution and panel (and other stuff too). Most 1080p monitors come with 24-inches but there are monitors with 27-inches. The monitors mentioned here are 24-inch.
If you are looking for the cheapest 144Hz monitor you can get your hands on, here it is.
AOC G2490VX
This is the cheapest 144Hz monitor in India coming at just ₹12,285. AOC G2490VX is an FHD monitor with a VA panel which is inferior to the more mainstream IPS panel in many aspects.
Quick Specs
- Resolution: 1920×1080 (FHD)
- Panel and Size: 24″, VA
- Refresh Rate: 144 Hz
- Colour Gamut: 93% DCI-P3/ 126% sRGB
- Contrast Ratio: 4000:1
- Brightness: 350 nit
- Dynamic Refresh Rate: AMD Freesync Premium,
- Good colour coverage
- sRGB mode
- Great contrast ratio
- Not ideal for fast-paced gaming
Despite being a cheap monitor, it does offer some compelling features like a wide colour gamut, FreeSync Premium and HDR although it comes with trade-offs too. The first major tradeoff is its VA panel.
VA panels are inferior in pixel response time when compared to IPS panels. It simply means that the image on the screen won’t change very fast which might lead to distortions in images like ghosting, overshoot, etc. Although, in this price range, such performance is expected.
But, keeping image quality into consideration, VA panels do offer a much better contrast ratio and brightness. The 93% DCI-P3 (126% sRGB) colour gamut, makes it project vibrant colours and overall better image quality.
Although, this monitor suffers from poorer viewing angles and gamma shifts which might change the perception of colour depending on your viewing angle. Even though many won’t notice this unless looking for it, it is not ideal for work requiring accurate colours. For gaming, it is not an issue.
Considering the price, this can be a monitor worth purchasing if you are into casual gaming and do not care for content creation works or fast-paced, competitive gaming.
While this is the cheapest 144Hz monitor in India, it is not great. But, if you can push your budget just by ₹2000, there is a monitor that is more worth the money.
MSI OPTIX G241
MSI Optix G241 is also a cheap 144Hz monitor coming at just below ₹14000 which focuses more on the gaming aspects of the monitor than on the design, build quality and other features.
Quick Specs
- Resolution: 1920×1080 (FHD)
- Panel and Size: 24″, IPS
- Refresh Rate: 144 Hz
- Colour Gamut: 95% DCI-P3/ 128% sRGB
- Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
- Brightness: 250 nit
- Dynamic Refresh Rate: AMD Freesync Premium
- IPS panel with a high refresh rate at an economic price
- The good response rate for the price
- Wide colour gamut
- Good build quality
- No SRGB mode
- Limited input/output
Despite being a more economical 144Hz monitor, it doesn’t have any build quality issues, is mostly made of plastic and is lightweight compared to others. Being a member of the Optix family, good performance and image quality are expected despite being on a lower spectrum and it doesn’t disappoint.
The wide colour gamut of 95% DCI-P3 provides good colour reproduction for gaming and work. Although the calibration is not great, you can tweak the colour profiles to make it a little more better. Having said that, the calibration doesn’t hurt gaming but can be a problem for tasks which need 100% colour accuracy.
MSI Optix G241 is made for gaming and the panel performance is what matters more here. It has an IPS display which is faster than VA panels and the response times are completely acceptable at this price consistently scoring below 5ms.
Being an IPS display, it has a poorer contrast ratio and suffers IPS glows but it is not too bad considering the price.
Overall, MSI Optix G241 is a good value, super-budget 144Hz monitor if you want to get started with a high refresh rate monitor.
Conclusion
The cheapest monitor does not equal the best value monitor. While the AOC G2490VX can be a good option if you are on a tight budget, it is better to choose the MSI Optix G241 for better value for the money.
IPS panel, better response time, and build quality are more than worth the extra ₹2000 you are going to pay than buying the cheapest one in the market.

Is VA panel worth over IPS panel?
VA panel is not too bad when the price is considered. While the VA panel may suffer from inconsistent viewing angles and lower response rates, it has a better contrast ratio, brightness and image quality depending on the monitor. It also costs less than a monitor with an IPS panel making it worth it for thrifty gamers.
