RX 7700XT and RX 7800XT announced by AMD, to be launched on September 6

AMD has announced the awaited mid-range RX 7000 series – RX 7800XT and RX 7700XT at Gamescom and one of them looks very compelling. AMD also announced FSR 3 among other software improvements and features, mostly specific gaming.

With the launch of these new cards, RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti will have competition in the market. But the bigger competitors would be AMD’s own previous generation RX 6000 series that provides great value for money.

RX 7800XT: Release date, Specs and Price

RX 7800XT looks like a very compelling card priced at $499 which will directly compete with RTX 4070 which is currently available for ₹55,000. The RX 7800XT price in India is The RX 7800XT is based on Navi 32 (maxed out).

The RX 7800XT is marketing at 1440p gaming GPU with a significant focus on upscaling as well. The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT specifications feature 60 compute units (CUs) or 3840 stream processors. It has a boost clock of up to 2430 MHz, which can provide up to 37 teraflops (TFLOPS) of FP32 compute horsepower. The card also has 60 ray tracing accelerator cores, 120 AI accelerator units, and 96 ROPs. It has a total board power (TBP) of 263 watts.

The RX 7800 XT has 16 GB of GDDR6 memory that operates at pin speeds of up to 19.5 Gbps across a 256-bit wide bus interface. This provides the card with a memory bandwidth of 624 GB/s. The card also has 64 MB of Infinity Cache, which provides increased effective bandwidth.

RX 7800XT Performance

AMD has also shown first-party performance benchmarks that put RX 7800XT ahead of RTX 4070 in raster performance and lag behind RTX 4070 by a few percent.

The first-party data shows RX 7800XT up to 23% ahead in titles like Call of Duty: MW2 and Cyberpunk 2077. According to the given set of titles here, RX 7800XT is about 10% faster in raster performance and 4% slower in ray tracing performance.

Given the price difference between the two, RX 7800XT fits in perfectly for a GPU in the sub-₹50,000 ($500) range. Given that RTX 4070 and RX 6800XT perform the same, RX 7800XT gets only a 10% performance uplift but gets a price reduction of $150. RX 7800XT has an advantage in terms of memory with a higher 16GB VRAM compared to RTX 4070 with 12GB VRAM.

RX 7800XT Price and Launch

RX 7800XT price in India hasn’t been shared officially but the price is most likely to be ₹49,000 in India considering the taxes and current conversion rate. RX 7800XT will be available to purchase on September 6.

RX 7800XT will have a reference model and third-party models will be available from AIB partners as usual.

RX 7700XT performance

RX 7700XT is being pitted as a competitor to the RTX 4060Ti which did not impress anyone. AMD has given a first-party benchmark for the RX 7700XT compared to the RTX 4060Ti 16GB.

It is up to 31% faster in titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 26% in Cyberpunk 2077. All the performance numbers are taken at 1440p. Taking an average of all the games, the raster performance of RX 7700XT is about 18% faster than RTX 4060Ti. However, in ray tracing performance, it is only 3% faster than the RTX 4060Ti 16GB.

Compared to the previous generation RX 6700XT, RX 7700XT is about 25% faster which is a great improvement in performance generationally and it is also 20$ cheaper. As of now, RX 6700XT is available at around ₹32,000 and is one of the best value cards in the market right now.

RX 7700XT Price and Launch

RX 7700XT price in India hasn’t been shared officially but the price is most likely to be ₹43,500 in India considering the taxes and current conversion rate. RX 7700XT will be available to purchase on September 6.

RTX 4060Ti 16GB is now available at the price of around ₹47,000 and compared to the RX 7700XT might be a better deal. However, it might be dead at arrival because, for just ₹5000, you can get RX 7800XT. We will have to wait and see how the prices are affected after launch and people respond to both the cards.

RX 7700XT will not have the reference model but, third-party models will be available from AIB partners as usual.

Final thoughts

RX 7700XT and 7800XT will be available on September 6 along with the release of Starfield. You will also get Starfield bundled with the GPU. Both of these sound like compelling options, maybe RX 7700XT not so much because of the price.

We will just have to wait a few days more to see its performance. Stay tuned with Yantragyan for the review of these GPUs.
