At the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple has introduced its new 15-inch MacBook Air.
It fits perfectly in the market gap for a large screen laptop that doesn’t break the bank, while providing an impressive blend of design, power, and portability.
Design & Display
The centerpiece of Apple’s claim is the 15.3-inch MacBook Air’s incredibly thin form factor. Measuring just 11.5 mm thick, Apple believes this to be the thinnest 15-inch laptop ever produced. The company hasn’t made such a claim since the launch of the original MacBook Air back in 2008, and it’s bound to raise eyebrows across the tech industry.
The 15.3-inch Retina display is bordered by 5 mm bezels, making the screen area feel expansive and immersive. With a brightness of 500 nits, it should handle well even in bright environments.
Performance & Battery Life
According to Apple, the new MacBook Air will be up to 12 times faster than previous Intel MacBook Air models, thanks to the M2 chip. Despite its svelte form factor, Apple promises no compromises on battery life, estimating up to 18 hours of use on a single charge.
The Perfect Middle Ground?
Apple seems to be targeting a specific niche of users with the 15-inch MacBook Air. Those who found the 14-inch model too small for their liking but considered the 16-inch MacBook Pro too bulky (or pricey) might find this new laptop as the perfect middle ground. Whether it meets their expectations, however, will only be known once users get their hands on it.
Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air has definitely raised the bar for ultra-thin laptops. It is a fitting embodiment of Apple’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in design and engineering. While the company’s promises are bold, we’re keen to put this new laptop through its paces in the real world.
