There is no point in Buying MSI CLAW When MSI Claw 8 AI+ is so Much Better With Intel Lunar Lake

MSI recently unveiled the Claw 8 AI+ at Computex 2024, just a few months after launching the Claw 7 (their first handheld console). The Claw failed to impress anyone, especially with competitors like Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck.

However, the new iteration of MSI’s handheld is getting significant upgrades, particularly being powered by Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 200 “Lunar Lake” processor, which promises enhanced performance and efficiency.

One of the standout features of the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is its larger 8-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering Full HD+ resolution (1920×1200) and a 120Hz refresh rate. This is a notable improvement over its predecessor, both in terms of screen size and display quality. The device also supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), ensuring smoother gameplay.

MSI Claw 8 AI+ Major Upgrades

  • SoC: Intel Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) from Core Ultra 100H (Meteor Lake)
  • Memory: LPDDR5X-8533 from LPDDR5-6400
  • Battery: 80Wh from 53Wh
  • USB: 2x Thunderbolt 4 from 1x Thunderbolt 4
  • SSD: M.2 2280 from M.2 2230

The battery capacity is another major enhancement, with the Claw 8 AI+ boasting a hefty 80Wh battery, a significant increase from the 53Wh battery found in the Claw 7. This should offer much longer playtime, especially when combined with the power efficiency of the Lunar Lake processor.

Design-wise, MSI has refined the ergonomics of the Claw 8 AI+, adding deeper, rounded grips and textured sides for better handling. The device also includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, providing versatile connectivity options, along with improved cooling mechanisms to handle more intensive gaming sessions.

While pricing and exact release dates haven’t been confirmed, MSI is expected to reveal more details in September, likely in tandem with Intel’s official launch of the Lunar Lake processors.

This new model will compete directly with other high-end handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go. Being the only Intel-powered handheld in the market, Intel has a lot riding on this.
