PS5 Pro Specifications Leaked; Arriving before Holidays

We already know that PS5 Pro is in the works and we have got some leaks about it. Thanks to Verge, we now have a complete, we can now confirm previously leaked details surrounding Sony’s highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, codenamed “Trinity”.

What’s in the new hardware?

As hinted at earlier, the PS5 Pro places a major emphasis on enhanced ray tracing capabilities. Sony is asking developers to optimize their games for the new hardware while also emphasizing ray tracing.

The PS5 Pro will feature a next-generation RDNA 3 GPU with 30 Workgroup Processors (WGP) running BVH8 architecture. This delivers 33.5 TeraFLOPS of FP32 single-precision computing power, a significant leap compared to the standard PS5.

PS5 Pro gets a CPU speed bump to 3.85 GHz, which can help with ray tracing. Sony estimates that the PS5 Pro’s GPU delivers up to 45% faster rendering compared to the base PS5.

Delving into the memory improvements, Sony has bumped up the memory bandwidth from 448 GB/s to 576 GB/s, enhancing data transfer speeds for a smoother and more immersive gaming experience.

The PS5 Pro goes beyond just graphical enhancements. For AI processing, there is a custom AI accelerator that offers 300 TOPS of 8-bit INT8 processing power and 67 FP16 TeraFLOPS, specifically designed to tackle AI tasks within games (mostly for AI frame generation or upscaling, probably).

Delving deeper, there is also something new in PS5 Pro’s graphics architecture specifically designed to support ray tracing – PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This enables developers to leverage ray-tracing features more extensively.

The PS5 Pro features a next-generation ACV audio codec, capable of processing audio data up to 35% faster compared to the standard PS5, promising an enriched auditory experience.

To ensure seamless compatibility, Sony is equipping developers with PS5 Pro test kits. Additionally, all games submitted for certification from August 2024 onwards must be compatible with the PS5 Pro.

Release Date and Availability

While Sony has yet to officially confirm, insider reports from Insider Gaming suggest a potential release window during the 2024 holiday season.

While these specifications paint a promising picture, it’s important to remember that these are not official, and things might change.
