Nintendo Switch has been extremely popular and successful and as with many hardware, it is time to look at the next generation. Although there is no official announcement about the Switch 2, it is in development and the latest rumours suggest a mid-2024 release.
In a recent report posted on the news site Chosun Biz, it has been disclosed that Nintendo is currently engaged in discussions with Samsung Display regarding the supply of next-generation OLED panels. The talks, initiated on December 1st, appear to be a swift response to allegations against display maker BOE, accused of allegedly acquiring Samsung’s OLED trade secrets.
Amid conflicting information surrounding the panel specifications of the rumoured Nintendo Switch 2, this latest development adds weight to speculations about two distinct launch SKUs. According to the reports, a more economical model may feature an LCD panel, while a pricier variant could boast a superior OLED panel.
Although the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 is still pending, predictions point towards a potential late 2024 launch, there remains speculation that the console might hit the market sooner than anticipated.
Reliable tech leaker Ravengus recently suggested an early 2024 release, a notion supported by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa’s earlier statement hinting at a short timeframe between the system’s announcement and its release. If the term “early 2024” refers to a timeframe after the start of the next fiscal year in April 2024, then there may be some validity to the leaker’s claim.
It is important to note that the Nintendo Switch 2 has not been officially revealed yet. As more information surfaces, we will provide updates on the console, ensuring you stay informed with the latest news.
