Fast charging tech keeps on improving. With companies Xiaomi, Realme and Oppo competing for title of fastest charging tech.
Now Xiaomi has showcased its improved HyperCharge technology with 300 W(Watts) with ability to charge a phone with 4100 mAh battery in Just 5 minutes. Yes, in 5 minutes.
Here is the video showcased by Xiaomi
The brand used a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery smartphone with a 4,100 mAh battery in a controlled environment as seen in video. Device reached 50% in just 2 minutes 11 seconds and the battery was at 100% just before reaching 5 minutes.
Another thing to note, it reached the max power of 290 W which showcases real world usage. 300 W is the max theoretical limit.
The Fast charging tech has seen great improvements in recent times, specially in smartphone segment.
In 2021, we saw 200 W HyperCharge technology from Xiaomi charging phone full in 8 minutes, first by any brand. Then other companies were quick to follow up with Oppo showcasing 240W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge at MWC 2022.
Now, we have 300 W HyperCharge by Xiaomi again leading the round. In order to Fast charging work properly, innovation in both Charger and mobile battery is needed. The adapter itself comes with Double GaN technology and has “more than 50 safety protections” but still retains a small size, Redmi said.
GaN chargers are one of the crucial components of Fast charging technology which make possible the small size of chargers despite huge power like 300 W.
We have written a detailed article about GaN chargers- Check here, its a great read.
Coming back to Xiaomi and Redmi (Sub-brand of Xiaomi). They also introduced 210 W Hyper charge at MWC 2023.
Fast charging technology is seeing a lot of innovations lately. This is good for us as smartphone users. But, maybe brand should focus on more on longevity and battery backup as one user summed it up perfectly.
We don’t need fast charging we need good optimisation with smooth animation and fluid experience
