Last week was exciting with so many launches, reveals and future prospects of the biggest tech companies. These launches majorly happened during the CES 2022 event. With new graphics cards hitting the market, new laptops, new processors and much more, here’s a rundown of all the major tech news of the last week.
Nvidia launches RTX 3050 and RTX 3090 Ti for desktops.
Nvidia has launched two new cards for desktop. RTX 3050 being the most awaited graphics card in the budget segment and RTX 3090 Ti, which is their newest successor to the monster GPU RTX 3090.
RTX 3050 is being positioned as the stepping stone for many gamers who use 50 series GTX cards to the world of RTX. RTX 3050 will be available worldwide from Jan 27 with a price starting at $249 (INR 22200)
RTX 3050 will have 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, a 128-bit memory bus and a 1.55 GHz base clock (1.78 GHz base clock).
While much of the details about the RTX 3090 Ti is not available, it will feature 24 GB of GDDR6 memory and will run at 21 Gbps.
Nvidia also launched new graphics cards for laptops – RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti.
RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 laptop GPU already exists and Nvidia has now launched their Ti versions which will be available from laptop makers like Asus, Dell, Acer, etc. starting from February 1.
RTX 3070Ti laptops will be priced starting from $1499 and RTX 3080 Ti will start from $2499.
AMD teases their next-gen Zen 4 7000 series processors
AMD processors are running on Zen 3 currently and will push their limit with Zen 4 in the upcoming days. AMD’s CEO Lisa Su teased their upcoming 7000 series processors.
It will be on a new AM5 platform as opposed to their current AM4 platform. It will have DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 support and will have a new LGA1718 socket.
It will arrive in the second half of 2022.
AMD 3D V cache will make Ryzen 7 5800X can keep up with next gen Intel i9-12900K
AMD is bringing 3D chiplet technology to their processors and it will start with Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
It will feature 8 core, 16 thread with up to 4.5 GHz boost clock and 3.4 GHz base clock. It will feature the unique 64MB AMD 3D-V Cache and 32 MB of 2D Cache.
With a TDP of 105W, AMD claims it to be significantly faster than the 5900X processor with an average 15% boost in gaming performance at 1080p. Even compared to the Intel 12900K, it is faster in some titles like Final Fantasy XIV, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Far Cry 6.
AMD launches their budget GPU for $199
Built of 6nm process technology and RDNA2 architecture, RX 6500 XT is targeted towards entry-level gaming.
The RX 6500XT will come with a clock speed of 2.6 GHz, 16 compute units and Ray Accelerators and 16 MB of Infinity Cache.
In 2022 4 GB of VRAM isn’t enough for many titles and apparently, AMD did this deliberately to make it more available to gamers. 4 GB of VRAM is not attractive for miners and will decrease their profitability.
Although, this won’t solve the issue of artificial inflation which already has seen RX 6500XT being listed much above the MSRP of $199.
AMD launched 6000 series laptop processors and a new line of 6000 series laptop GPU
While Intel launched its 12th-gen mobile processors for laptops and notebooks, AMD has hit back with its 6000 series processors.
Based on Zen 3+ CPU core and built on 6nm process technology which the company is boasting to be 1.3x more powerful than their 5000 series processors. AMD also says that it is the fastest Ryzen CPU ever with a 5 GHz clock speed.
Another significant part of the Ryzen 6000 series is the use of RDNA2 architecture in mobile APU’s. This is a huge leap in APU since it’s the same architecture used in more powerful desktop AMD graphics cards.
