Best Games Releasing in January 2024

It’s the start of the new year and that means, it’s time for more games. The start of the Gaming Year 2024 looks promising with some great games. While there are no big AAA titles for January, surprisingly, many games are set to give us nostalgia hits. Here is a list of the best games releasing in January 2024.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell

January 11, 2024

Windows

If you do not know what the Momodora series is, it is a series of platformer adventures where several priestesses wield enchanted maple leaves against monstrous creatures!

This is the last chapter in the Momodora saga that whisks you back to the quaint village of Koho, set five years after the events in Momodora 3. In this game, you play Momo Reinol, the village’s most skilled priestess. Armed with a whip, spear, and divine blessings, you’ll explore a world teeming with monstrous creatures and treacherous traps. The pixelated art style looks beautiful with vibrant colors, landscapes, and some good boss encounters.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

January 15, 2024

Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5 and Switch

Returning back to the old classic Prince of Persia games, this game is also a 2.5D side-scroller, action-adventure, platformer game. The protagonist is not the same as the classic Prince of Persia but Sargon, a fledgling member of The Immortals, faces a daunting mission: infiltrate the cursed Mount Qaf and liberate Prince Ghassan.

Embracing all the elements of the classic Prince of Persia games—platforming, puzzle-solving, and time-based powers—this game has slightly anime-inspired visuals with fast-paced action and colourful combos. Given that, it is a Metroidvania made by a big studio, it should be an enjoyable experience and the early reviews of the game have been positive. But, since it is from Ubisoft, you never know how they can screw up.

The Cub

January 19, 2024

Developed by the creators of Golf Culb Nostalgia, The Cub is a platformer set in a post-apocalyptic world with beautiful visuals and audio. In a world claimed by evolved mother nature, you must battle and escape hunters, evolved flora, and fauna to discover the mystery behind the event.

You will parkour through urban landscapes, and rough terrains while being chased by humans settled on Mars. The demo reviews have been positive and it highly praises the challenging and satisfying nature of the platforming reminiscent of the old SEGA games like Jungle Book.

Enshrouded

January 24, 2024

Windows

Enshrouded is an action-adventure, crafting survival RPG. Set in Embervale, you play as a Flameborn, basically a magic user with a knack for crafting and building. Scavenge resources, whip up tools and weapons, and maybe even throw up a cosy home base amidst the chaos. Flame is your magic source, powering weaponry and spells.

But hold on, there’s more! Embervale’s got factions, each with their agendas and opinions on how to deal with the whole “cursed land” situation. Wardens wanna keep things chill, Blight dudes are all about dark power, and you? You get to choose who to buddy up with (or go rogue, if that’s your jam).

The most unique aspect of the game is that it has 16-player co-op which sounds absolutely fun (if you have 15 other friends). It needs to be seen how well it translates into the game but we are rooting for this game as it looks like a lot of fun!

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

January 26, 2024

Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5

Get ready for a double dose of yakuza thrills, because this one brings back two legends – Ichiban Kasuga, the underdog with a heart of gold, and Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima himself.

This time, their paths cross in two locations: Yokohama, Japan, and Honolulu, Hawaii. Kasuga’s on a quest to find his long-lost mother, while Kiryu gets tangled in a web of Hawaiian Yakuza drama. Needless to say, things get explosive really fast.

But hey, it wouldn’t be a Like a Dragon game without some epic brawls and wacky side activities. Expect familiar face-punching action with Kazuma’s classic Dragon style and Ichiban’s bat-wielding fury. Plus, there’s karaoke, mini-games galore, and maybe even some hula dancing lessons with Kiryu (don’t judge). This isn’t just a reunion tour, though. Infinite Wealth boasts a brand-new adventure filled with twists and turns. You’ll unravel mysteries, face off against rival gangs, and maybe even witness some emotional reunions.

So, whether you’re a Yakuza die-hard or just looking for a good punch-’em-up with a side of Hawaiian sunshine, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has your back. Get ready to rumble, sing karaoke, and maybe learn a few hula moves.

Tekken 8

January 26, 2024

Windows, Xbox Series S|X, PS5

Tekken is back! It has been quite a few years since the last Tekken game and it is back with a bang. Tekken 8 is made on Unreal Engine 5 which will be interesting to see as it is the first major fighting game based on the new engine. The visuals are absolutely amazing with 32 fighters on the roster.

Story-wise, it is set a few months after Tekken 7. Kazuyah Mishima, consumed by darkness, sits on a global throne. Using the G Corporation’s might, he plunges the world into martial law, his ambition as boundless as his ruthlessness. But Jin Kazama, the cursed bearer of the Devil Gene, rises from the shadows, driven by a desperate hope to stop his father’s reign of terror.

It’s Tekken so the “Heat” mechanic is returning along with all the crazy animations and effects, all elevated by the power of Unreal Engine 5.
