Vivo Announces OriginOS 6 With a Fresh Design and Better Animations, Now Launching Globally

Vivo brings OriginOS 6 to global markets, unifying its Android 16 experience with smoother performance, deeper AI, and a clear end to FuntouchOS worldwide.

Vivo has formally announced OriginOS 6 for international users, completing a multi-year pivot that replaces FuntouchOS with a unified, Android 16-based interface across Vivo and iQOO phones outside China.

The rollout is scheduled to begin in early November 2025 and continue into the first half of 2026. The move elevates China’s long‑lauded OriginOS design philosophy to global devices, aligning visuals, performance, and AI features under one banner for the first time.

Design language and usability

At the center is “Origin Design,” a cohesive visual system that unifies color, shape, depth, and iconography through translucent panels, layered shadows, and dynamic lighting effects, paired with the new Vivo Sans family for improved legibility across 40+ languages.

Lock Screen Grid and Home Screen Grid allow flexible placement and resizing, while Flip Cards and Origin Island surface real‑time information and quick actions with minimal friction.

Performance Improvements

Apart from the visual overhaul, the new OriginOS will introduce new features to improve performance. OriginOS 6 introduces the Origin Smooth Engine, a low‑level stack that tunes computing, storage, and display pipelines for sustained responsiveness, with published gains including 18.5% faster cold app starts, 10.5% steadier frame rates, and 106% faster data loading under stress.

Dual Rendering Architecture claims up to 35% smoother animations, while Memory Fusion and an “8+1 Ultra‑Core Computing” system keep more apps alive and prioritize touch‑critical tasks; Vivo cites 41% faster touch response and 16% faster sequential launches across 50 apps.

To address long‑term degradation, Vivo points to SGS’s “5‑Year All‑Scenario Heavy‑Use” certification for the X300 Pro running OriginOS 6, indicating verified smoothness retention after simulated extended usage; this certification is being used as a proxy for the OS’s durability target across future flagships.

AI features and interaction model

Vivo is foregrounding on‑device intelligence and context‑aware flows, with features like Origin Island, Copy & Go, and Drag & Go to move content and trigger cross‑app actions without heavy app switching, leaning on Android 16’s privacy and capability upgrades.

The Origin Animation System adds motion primitives – Spring, Morphing, One‑Shot, and Blur transitions, designed to make micro‑interactions feel more predictable and “alive” while providing state feedback.

What users can expect day‑to‑day?

  • Fluidity under load: Dual Rendering keeps animations coherent during heavy multitasking, while the Smooth Engine and Snap‑Up Engine dynamically reallocate resources when seconds matter, such as ticketing or checkout flows.
  • Flexible personalization: Live photo wallpapers, richer lock screen layouts, and grid‑based control over home elements help tailor both information density and aesthetic.
  • Lower cognitive friction: Origin Island’s glanceable surface and drag‑to‑act affordances trim navigation time across messages, media, and meetings, while animation grammar provides clearer state change cues.

OriginOS 6 Availability

OriginOS 6 will run out of the box in vivo X300 series and iQOO 15. For other devices, it will roll out starting from November 2025 and throughout the first half of 2026 to other devices globally.

In India, OTA updates begin in early November, starting with Vivo’s newest flagships and expanding through December, followed by a broader wave in H1 2026 that spans X, V, T, and Y series devices, marking FuntouchOS’s formal sunset in the country. The currently confirmed timeline is:

  • Early November: X Fold 5, X200 Pro, X200, V60.
  • Mid‑November: X Fold 3 Pro, X100 Pro, X100.
  • Mid‑December: V60e, V50, V50e, T4 Ultra, T4 Pro.
  • H1 2026: X90 series; extensive V40/V30 lines; T4/T3 lines; and a broad Y‑series roster including Y400 and Y200 families, among others.
