Samsung is set to significantly change its Galaxy Tab S10 lineup, particularly with the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus. According to a new report, the mid-range tablet will be equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300+ chipset instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, marking the first time Samsung has opted for MediaTek’s SoC in its premium tablet series. This strategic decision appears to be driven by the ‘butterfly effect’ of escalating Qualcomm chipset prices.
Rising Qualcomm Prices and the Butterfly Effect
The decision to shift to MediaTek’s silicon stems from a need to manage costs effectively. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, estimated to cost around $200, presented a less attractive option for Samsung.
A report from Chosun reveals that the increase in Qualcomm’s prices has created a cascading effect, pushing Samsung to explore more cost-efficient alternatives. Interestingly, instead of utilizing its own Exynos 2400 chipset, Samsung chose MediaTek, signaling a shift in its supplier strategy.
MediaTek Dimensity 9300+
MediaTek managed to secure a deal with Samsung by offering a more favorable price-performance ratio. The Dimensity 9300+ is produced using TSMC’s 4nm process and supports advanced technologies such as LPDDR5T RAM and on-device AI scalability from 1B to 33B parameters. This makes the chipset not only cost-effective but also competitive in terms of performance and efficiency.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ spotted on Geekbench
The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, identified by the model number SM-X828U, recently appeared on Geekbench, revealing impressive performance scores. The tablet, powered by the Dimensity 9300+, achieved 2,141 points in single-core and 6,952 points in multi-core tests. The listing also confirmed the presence of 12GB RAM and Android 14, indicating robust specifications.
Should Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 also prove too costly, it is plausible that Samsung might continue its collaboration with MediaTek for future models, such as the Galaxy Tab S11 series. The potential adoption of the Dimensity 9400 in subsequent tablets could further cement MediaTek’s role as a key supplier.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ is anticipated to launch later this year, succeeding the Galaxy Tab S9+ which debuted in July 2023. While official details about the Galaxy Tab S10 series remain scarce, the recent benchmark listing provides a glimpse into the key features and the strategic direction Samsung is taking with its tablet lineup.
