Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Launched at $649 (INR 59,999); Has Samsung Lost its Track with FE phones?

Samsung has officially launched two exciting additions to its Fan Edition line up: the Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy Watch FE LTE. Both devices aim to deliver high-end features at more affordable prices, bridging the gap between flagship models like the Galaxy S24 and a budget-conscious audience.

Galaxy S24 FE Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is designed for those who want flagship-level performance without the premium price tag. Priced starting at $650 and ₹ 59,999 in India, the S24 FE retains many of the attractive features of the standard Galaxy S24, making it a competitive mid-range option. Most of the specification are as per the recent leaks of the S24 Fe.

Here’s a deep dive into the phone’s key features.

Display and Design

It comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ (1080×2340) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, featuring a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. However, unlike S24, the refresh rate doesn’t scale down to 1Hz. The display on S24 FE can only go up to 60Hz.

With a larger screen, Samsung S24 FE could have gone with QHD+ resolution like in Galaxy S24+ for a much better display. The 6.7-inch screen is also quite a jump from the relatively smaller 6.4-inch Galaxy S23 FE.

Galaxy S24 FE is quite hefty with 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0 dimensions, weighing 213 g. For people who like big phones, it is not a big deal, but it might turn off people who prefer compact phones. It has rounded corners, which makes it appealing and easier to handle.

Processor and Performance

For the first time, the FE model will be equipped with the same processor as its higher-tier siblings. Powering the S24 FE is the Exynos 2400e processor, a slightly downscaled version of the flagship’s Exynos 2400.

The Galaxy S24 FE is no slouch, though, and retains the 8GB RAM configuration, paired with 128GB, or 256GB of storage, depending on the variant. It’s optimized for the most common tasks and will satisfy the needs of gamers and power users.

Camera System

The camera setup is often a key deciding factor for consumers, and the Galaxy S24 FE doesn’t disappoint.

Rear Cameras

The S24 FE boasts a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. This camera system leverages Samsung’s AI-driven ProVisual Engine to optimize low-light performance, improve zoom quality, and enhance HDR color representation.

Selfie Camera

The 10MP front-facing camera on the S24 FE is perfectly suitable for selfies and video calls, although the standard S24 offers enhanced autofocus features for sharper front-facing shots in low light.

AI Features

Galaxy S24 FE features Samsung’s advanced AI camera tools, including Nightography, Generative Edit (for moving or removing objects from photos), and Portrait Studio, which turns selfies into artistic creations.

Battery Life

Battery life is another area where the S24 FE shines, especially with a larger 4,700mAh battery, compared to the S24’s 4,000mAh unit. This slight boost in battery capacity ensures longer-lasting performance, giving users up to a day of usage with standard tasks.

The S24 FE also supports 25W fast charging, allowing for a 50% charge in 30 minutes, similar to its more premium counterpart. Additionally, the phone supports wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, making it easy to charge accessories like Galaxy Buds wirelessly.

Samsung really needs to provide much higher charging speeds for its flagship phones!

Software and Security

The Galaxy S24 FE comes with Android 14 and Samsung’s One UI 6.1 right out of the box. Samsung has committed to seven years of software updates and security patches, ensuring long-term viability for this device. This is an area where both the FE and standard S24 shine, as Samsung is known for its extensive software support.

Additionally, the S24 FE includes Samsung’s Knox security system, which ensures your data remains safe from malware and attacks, much like its flagship counterpart.

Galaxy S24 FE Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy S24 FE is priced at $650 and ₹ 59,999 in India for the base model (128GB), which is $250 less than the base model of the Galaxy S24 (considering the launch price).

Pre-orders have already started, and the phone will be available from October 3 in several colors, including blue, graphite, gray, and mint.

Pre-booking is available at official samsung.com and for India, the pre-booking page for S24Fe is live.

Also, currently, Samsung is running an offer in India, where the 256GB model can be pre-booked at the same price as the base model 256GB – which is ₹59,999. Samsung is giving ₹6,000 benefits on the price of the 256 GB model – ₹ 65999 thus effectively making its price ₹59,999.

Should You Buy S24 FE?

While it isn’t a bad device in a vacuum, it is not a value purchase with many better options, from Samsung itself and other brands. Samsung S23 FE is on sale right now at INR 27,999 and Samsung S24 Plus is available at a similar price as the S24 FE.

The FE phones are supposed to be cheaper than its siblings but right now, it sits at the same price range as Galaxy S24. With so many sales and offers on the Galaxy S23 and S24 series, there is no reason to buy the S24FE.
