Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, its latest mid-range mobile chipset. The new chip offers a number of enhancements over its predecessor, including improved CPU and GPU performance, as well as a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 CPU
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 4nm process technology. Its CPU architecture consists of the 1+3+4 CPU layout.
It features a triple-cluster CPU architecture, comprising one high-performance ARM Cortex-A715 Prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, three ARM Cortex-A715 performance cores capable of reaching up to 2.4GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A510 efficiency cores with a maximum clock speed of 1.8GHz.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset offers a notable 15% improvement in CPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, based on Geekbench 6.1 single thread score.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 GPU
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 reportedly utilizes the Adreno 720 GPU, marking a step down from the Adreno 725 employed in the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset delivers a significant 50% boost in GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 based on Aztec Ruins 1080p score. However, it falls short of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, which boasts double the GPU performance of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
In terms of graphics capabilities, the Adreno GPU integrated into the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 supports a range of advanced APIs, including OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3. These APIs provide developers with the tools to create visually stunning and immersive gaming experiences on mobile devices.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset boasts significant advancements in AI performance and graphics capabilities. The Qualcomm AI Engine delivers a remarkable 60% improvement in AI performance per watt compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
This enhanced AI efficiency empowers the processor to handle demanding AI-powered tasks, such as real-time language translation and image recognition, with greater power savings.
The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, the dedicated AI processing unit within the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, further elevates AI performance. It offers a substantial 60% boost in AI performance per watt over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, enabling seamless execution of AI-intensive applications and enhancing overall device responsiveness.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Connectivity and Display Capabilities
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset from Qualcomm introduces several notable advancements in display, camera, and connectivity capabilities. It supports high-resolution displays up to 4K at a 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ at an impressive 168Hz refresh rate, delivering smooth and immersive visuals.
The chipset also integrates the Qualcomm Spectra ISP, a powerful image signal processor that can handle up to 200MP main camera modules, enabling exceptional image capture capabilities. It further enhances video recording by supporting 4K HDR video at 60Hz, ensuring high-quality and detailed video recording.
For connectivity, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 incorporates the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System, delivering up to 5 Gbps download speeds across both mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands, providing users with blazing-fast internet connectivity.
Additionally, it supports Wi-Fi 6E, the latest Wi-Fi standard, offering enhanced Wi-Fi performance and reliability. Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity is also included, ensuring seamless pairing and data transfer with compatible devices.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Availability
We can expect to see the first devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset hit the market later this month. Honor and Vivo, two prominent smartphone manufacturers, are poised to be the first to unveil devices featuring the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
