Microsoft Corp. is working on a version of its search engine Bing that will include the artificial intelligence underlying OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT. Microsoft is considering investing up to $10 billion in OpenAI. Microsoft intends to have OpenAI’s popular AI bot ChatGPT in its Azure services, prompting the corporation to reconsider raising its stake in OpenAI.
Microsoft has already made the Azure OpenAI service available to a small number of clients. The service will give Microsoft cloud customers access to various OpenAI tools, including ChatGPT, a GPT-3.5-based model, and Dall-E, a model for producing images from text prompts. The business said this in a blog post. This enables Azure customers to leverage OpenAI products in their own cloud-based applications.
OpenAI has been at the epicenter of the tech industry’s recent rise in interest in artificial intelligence, and Microsoft is in advanced talks to raise its investment in the business. The Microsoft CEO was upbeat about the larger economic possibilities of technologies like ChatGPT, which can generate fluid-sounding prose based on short inquiries or instructions. He stated that such technologies are required to raise human productivity, which he claims will promote economic growth and wages for lower-income workers. “We need something that truly changes the productivity curve so we can have real economic growth,” he said.
So, how would Microsoft services driven by ChatGPT look?
It might function as a front end to Bing, answering inquiries in natural language. The AI-powered search might imply that when you ask a question, you get a complete paragraph with the answer rather than a list of links. Also, ChatGPT models are renowned for spewing biassed, damaging, and factually wrong material. They excel in producing smooth prose that reads as though it were written by a human. However, they have no actual grasp of what they are producing, and they assert both facts and lies with equal certainty.
When consumers seek information online today, they are presented with a plethora of possibilities, and they may determine which results are reliable for themselves.A conversation AI, such as ChatGPT, removes the “human assessment” layer, forcing consumers to accept results at face value.
Language models might be incorporated into Word to help users summarise reports, prepare proposals, and produce ideas more easily. They could also improve autocomplete tools in email and Word. Microsoft has already stated that it will employ OpenAI’s DALL-E text-to-image generator to generate visuals for PowerPoint presentations.
Online search isn’t the only sort of search that could be improved by the app. It might be used by Microsoft to assist users in searching for emails and documents.
