The superhit of 2022, Elden Ring took the gaming world by storm, selling over 20 million copies by March 2023. A DLC was announced in February 2023 – The Shadow of Erdtree.
Bandai Namco has finally shared the first official trailer for the highly anticipated expansion. The three-minute long trailer was more than enough for fans to get excited.
The trailer shows off some new bosses, a new realm, gameplay, and combat mechanics. It does a good job of not divulging too much information while giving enough for fans to go down the rabbit hole. While not much detail is revealed, here is the official description of the expansion.
The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion features an all-new story set in the Land of Shadow imbued with mystery, perilous dungeons, and new enemies, weapons and equipment. Discover uncharted territories, face formidable adversaries, and revel in the satisfying triumph of victory. Dive into the riveting interplay of characters, where drama and intrigue intertwine, that create an immersive experience to savor and enjoy
An exclusive interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki (the director of Elden Ring) and Eurogamer has given us more details.
It discusses new areas, bosses, and challenges players can expect. The DLC is said to be larger than any FromSoftware expansion before it. He said the new content is based on unused ideas from the base game’s development.
The game will take place on a brand new map in a new world which will have a similar structure as the Limgrave but bigger.
Players can expect new areas to explore, including a haunted grassland, fiery caverns, and mystical ruins. There will also be over 10 new boss fights. Miyazaki mentioned that the difficulty will be similar to the endgame of the base game.
As for the involvement of George Martin, Miyazaki confirmed that no new material was given exclusively for the expansion and it just expands on the story from the already existing mythos in the game.
