Xiaomi announced its entry-level budget smartphone, Redmi 2, a year ago in March. They followed it up with Redmi 2 Prime but it was not exactly a proper successor. Now, after a year, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 3s as the successor to Redmi 2 at Rs 8,999.

Xiaomi had launched Redmi 3s with much fanfare during a live streamed Event. However the live stream somehow got interrupted. Specification of the Redmi 3s are quite compelling considering the price range of the phone. The phone has a finger print scanner which makes it one of the cheapest phones to do so. There is another version of the phone as well. Redmi 3s Prime which has 3GB Ram and 32 GB storage. Redmi 3s Prime is priced at Rs 8,999. The display of the phone remains the same as that of Redmi 2.
However, phone has been given major updates in other areas. One of them is metal body which is hard to find in this budget. It also has 13MP rear and 5Mp front camera. One of the biggest update has been the battery that is 4100mAh. This completely justifies the slogan for Redmi 3s “Power At Last”.
The upgraded phone comes with a refreshed hardware, Qualcomm’s new 64-bit class Snapdragon 430 Octa-core, SoC ( Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.1 GHz Cortex-A53)and Adreno 505 graphics engine powering the device. Both the devices will be Made in India. So, here is hi five to Make in India project.
The phone comes in two variants- the Redmi 3S selling for (Rs 6,999) and the Redmi 3S Prime for about Rs 8,999.
Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime will be up for sale on August 9 on Flipkart and Mi.com.
Overall the new Redmi series has refined the mid-budget category. The competition has become even more fierce with competitors like Micromax Canvas Unite 4.
