The market is flooded with cheap android phone nowadays. But, have you ever came across a Rs 251 or $3.6 phone. Yes, meet Freedom 251.

Ringing Bells says the phone is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for “empowering India to the last person, transforming India’s growth story.”
Freedom 251 will have apps like Swach Bharat, women safety, farmer, google play Pree Installed. So the phone is aimed at lower income segment of the consumers. However many sources like, phoneradar have suggested that phone is a rebranded version of Adcom Icon 4 which is available at flipkart for Rs 4,00 but with some differences.

The differences between Freedom 251 and Adcom Ikon 4 are display, camera resolution and battery. The display on (Freedom 251) is of qHD (960×540)resolution whereas its WVGA(480×800) on Adcom handset. The rear and front cameras are of 5MP and 1.3MP on the Adcom unit while its 3.2MP and 0.3MP modules on the Freedom 251 smartphone. The battery is slightly reduced to 1450mAh than 1500mAh on the Ikon 4. However the cost of phone is surprisingly very low at Rs 251. Ringing Bells President Ashok Chaddha confirmed that there is no government subsidy for the phone, and nor is there any involvement from the government.

If the phone is successful , this can be good example of impact of Digital India programme.
